About Us
What is the Children’s Fund about?
The Children’s Fund was set up with money from central government. We fund a range of organisations that provide support to young people and their families who need help. This could be because they speak a different language or someone in the family has a disability, or even because only one parent is taking care of everyone. Our aim is to work closely together to identify children and young people who need help in accessing the services.
We work together with community and voluntary groups, and statutory agencies in Lambeth to address the gap in preventative services for 5 to 13 years old. We want to ensure children and young people will get the best possible support whilst growing up, stay out of trouble, flourish at school and are not excluded in any way.
How do these organisations make things easier for young people and their families?
Some of the organisations go into schools to help children and young people deal with bullying and other conflicts, some run clubs after school, where young people can get help with their homework and others do things like Go-carting, art & craft, drama, acrobatics and lots of other activities that otherwise young people may not have had a chance to take part in.
Some of our organisations offer lots of help to families with a disabled young person, so that they can join in the same activities as other young people. Other projects work to give children who are caring for a member of their family with a disability or long- term illness an opportunity to enjoy usual childhood activities.
What we believe in?
We believe in strengthening the involvement of children and young people in developing services they receive. We are dedicated to ensuring that young people are not excluded in any way from accessing the services and that they have the capacity to make their own decisions about what kind of services they would like to receive and how the services should be run. Through our Junior Peer Inspectors Project, we hope to give young people access to information, advice and training and encourage them to make decisions how they want services to run and be developed.
It is important to Lambeth Children’s Fund that young people and their families are listened to. This is so that we can provide the best services possible and make sure that the young people and families who need to use our services most are not being left out.
