Lambeth peer mediators receive the Diana Anti Bullying Award
16/10/2007
6 young persons form Stockwell Primary School have received the Diana Anti-Bullying Award for their outstanding contribution to tackling bullying in their school and community.
Bruno, Rafael, D’Jon, Honey, Nashra and Nandipa were chosen for the award because of the inspirational qualities that were demonstrated through their commitment and work during the last year.
Stockwell Primary School is one of the 25 schools in Lambeth with the peer mediation service. The scheme was developed by Healthy Minds with funding from Lambeth Children’s Fund to help reduce conflict in schools. Peer mediation teaches pupils essential conflict resolutions skills such as listening, communication, negotiation, empathy and creative problem solving. The mediators use these skills to support other children who may be experiencing conflicts, to resolve their dispute in a peaceful way and without relying on adults.
The Diana Anti-Bullying Award was setup in partnership with the Anti-Bullying Alliance and was launched by Ivan Lewis, MP, in July 2004. The Award recognizes the contribution of children and young people up to the age of 18 to tackling bullying in their schools and communities. The Award is open to all primary and secondary schools in the country. Schools can make one nomination during that time. All of the staff at Stockwell Primary School are very proud and the children were awarded at a presentation ceremony 17th July 2007.
