Funding Update

Middle Years (5-13)

The Government has announced that a like amount of money to the Children’s Fund will be available for preventative services from April 2008 but the mechanism as to how the money is to be made available has not been decided. It is likely that it will be linked to the LAA targets and paid through the Area based Grant. It will be for preventative services aimed at 5-13 years old.

One of the options under consideration by the Council is to extend for a limited period some or all of the existing Children’s Fund projects so that a more wide ranging commissioning exercise can be carried out later in the new year. A wider middle years commissioning process is also likely to take place in summer 2008.

We will be informing the existing groups as well as the wider service providers about tendering opportunities as they arise.

Early Years (under 5)

the deadline to submit an expression of interest to tender for services for children under five and their families closed on the 21st November. Bids are now being assessed and applicants will be notified by end Dec / early Jan whether they have been successful. Funding will start from 1 April 2008.

NOTE: The childcare element of early years has not gone out to tender yet. It will be commissioned in a separate phase sometime next year. All childcare providers currently in receipt of Education Business Partnership grants will have their funding extended for 6 months to account for the delay.

Universal Services for 14 – 19 years old

 the deadline to submit an expression of interest to tender for universal services for young people (14 - 19) closed on the 21st November. Bids are now being assessed and applicants will be notified in end Dec / early Jan whether they have been successful. Funding will start from 1 April 2008.
