Junior Peer Inspection
Got an idea, need
some funding then apply now!

Junior Peer Inspectors and Lambeth Children’s Fund Small Grants Scheme
Over the last year, Junior Peer Inspectors helped to develop Small Grants’ scheme together with Lambeth Children’s Fund. This scheme was set up to give the children an opportunity to have a say in what activities they want funded and allow them to make decisions on how to develop the projects and make them even better. One of the conditions of successful applications was for ideas on how to spend the money to come from children.
So far we allocated grants to over twenty projects and
the good news is that we have now started the third
round! The limit is £1,500 and we will prioritise funding for
good applications from groups who didn’t apply in the previous
rounds.
As the young people will be assessing the applications, we welcome
easy-to-read applications, pictures, and story boards from children
explaining what they would like the grant for. We also need to see that
a responsible worker has agreed to support and carry out the work
involved and that they have signed the form agreeing to do this.
As usual, the timescale for this is very tight. Please can you get completed
applications back to us at the very latest by Friday 15th February 2008
so that the children can assess the applications in half- term.
In order for you to access the Small Grant it is important that you read and understand the grant criteria below. These criteria set out what your application must include in order to be considered for funding. If you are unsure about any of the criteria please contact us, using the contact details below.

Grant Criteria
Applications must be:
• From the Children’s Fund funded projects. Age range 5-13
• must demonstrate that the grant is for something additional or that it will enhance the work they are currently funded for.
• Projects must be able to demonstrate that children who use the project have been involved in the application process (their ideas, views, etc are fully represented in the application)
• The limit is £1,500 as this is aimed at small grants for young people to develop. In exceptional circumstances the Junior Peer Inspectors may recommend to the Board that the limit is slightly increased.
• Projects must be able to spend the grant by Summer 2008
• They must be able to clearly state what the money will be used for and how children will directly benefit.
• They should be prepared to be interviewed and/or inspected by children and young people from the Junior Peer Inspection team.
• They will be sent a report form asking them to outline how they spent the money and what the outcomes were.
• They must publicise and promote the project as funded by the Children’s Fund
Here are some examples of things children successfully applied for in the last round:
• Peer Mediators wanted to buy a shed for their playground school so they could carry out their mediations there. £1,699 awarded
• Children from a project wanted a day trip with parents and family members. They went to Greenwich and had a boat trip. £800 awarded
• Children at an arts project wanted some video equipment so they could do animation workshops. £1,200 awarded
• Peer Mediators in a school wanted walkie-talkies to help them do their work on a big playground. £150 awarded
