Peer Inspectors- What's new?
Peer Inspectors - what has been done so far..

In October last year, we spent two days over half term looking at the applications for small grants to be spent on the improving the projects currently funded by the Children’s Fund.
Children were asked to come up with ideas how they would like to improve their projectsa and what activities , trips and play equipment they would like to spend the money on.

Then they submitted the applications together with pictures , drawings and story boards explaining what they would like the grant for. All the applications were assessed by the Junior Peer Inspectors, who looked at 14 applications from different projects and decided if they thought they should get the money or not.
Here are some examples of things children sucessfully aplied for:
· Peer Mediators wanted £150 to decorate a shed in the playground of their school so they could do their mediations there.
· Children on an adventure playground wanted to go on an outdoor trip and they planned this with their workers , £1,500.
· Children at an after school project wanted some extra play equipment so they sent in an application with pictures of the items they wanted, £800
· Children at a project wanted to make a music video of a song they had recorded so they applied to the fund for £1,500.
We also granted funds to the following projects:
•Whippersnappers for a music video
•L’Ouverture Trust for their Saturday Club
•Healthy Minds for the Peer Mediators
•Lambeth Playout for a trip
•Lambeth Playcare for a trip and equipment
•Oasis for a trip
•Slade Gardens for a trip
•Stewart Rd Playground for a zip wire

As a reward for all the hard work the team went to
Nando’s for lunch and then to see ‘Barnyard’ at the Ritzy cinema. We also got certificates for all our work.

Training Peer Mediators to inspect their own service
•We worked with a team of eight children from four
primary schools in Lambeth
•We played games and got to know each other
•We talked about why it was important for kids to have their say-
•We practised asking questions and interviewing people
•We developed some questions for children to ask when they visit each other’s schools
What we’re doing next
•Letting more people know about the grants
•We will be inspecting all the Children’s Fund projects. Then we will report on what we thought about the project, talk to the kids using the service and get their views on what they liked about it or thought could be improved.
•We will be supporting the Peer Mediators with their inspections
•Producing our reports on what we saw during our inspections.
•Giving out more money!!!
